William Atcheson Stewart (February 26, 1915 – December 8, 1990) was a Canadian politician.〔()〕 In 1957, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for the riding of Middlesex North. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, he was re-elected in 1959, 1963, 1967, and 1971. From 1960 to 1961, he was a Minister Without Portfolio. From 1961 to 1975, he was the Minister of Agriculture. In 1983, he was appointed the fourth chancellor of the University of Guelph. In 1976, he was awarded an honorary LL.D. from the University of Guelph. He was elected to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1988. ==Family== William Atcheson Stewart's parents were George Atcheson Stewart (b 14 Dec 1868) and Fanny Ann Langford (5 Jul 1872 - 26 Jan 1932) of 16th Concession, London, Middlesex Co., Ontario . George, was the son of William Atcheson Stewart (20 Apr 1834- 17 Feb 1909) and Margaret Lannin Hays (b 27 Sep 1838). George's grandfather, David Stewart, (b c1807) was the son of Hugh Stewart and Ann Kilpatrick of County Armagh, Ireland. David immigrated to Canada at the age of 20 in 1828, and he married, on 3 Feb 1833, Mary Ann Atcheson (c1800 - 20 Mar 1875) also born in Ireland. Their marriage took place in Bastard, Leeds Co., Ontario.
